IH 2500B / 574 MCV Flow divider valve removal..

Hi all:
I am having steering problems with my 1974 IH2500B / 574 loader tractor with the steering not working and after some troubleshooting and searching of the archives, I decided that I would pull the "Flow Divider valve" (priority valve) out of the MCV.

My problem is that after I remove plug and the spring the valve is stuck up inside the MCV, it won't come out!
Here is what I have already tried....
I ran the tractor with the plug and spring out and a bucket under the MCV hoping it would push the valve out, No Go!
A pair of needle nose pliers didn't work.
I have also tried a 4MM bolt and nut with a 5/16 fuel hose over the bolt, I tightening it in the base of the valve where the spring goes into, and tried to pull it out with a pair of vicegrips. NoJoy!
The Flow divider valve is so tight that it will not pull down and out of the MCV.
My next step is to use a lead redhead anchor in the base of the valve where I tried the 4MM bolt and fuel hose.
Are there any other tricks to try?
I am surprised this thing is not threaded inside so you could get a bolt into it to pull it out.
Any and all ideas are appreciated.

Andrew.

Hi Jimb2, Ya I tried that when I had the bucket under it, no dice! I really wish they had threaded the inside for an extraction bolt!

I ground the side off the head of a 4 or 5 inch
long either a 3/8 or 5/16 bolt . that let it fit up
into the valve on an angle and then I was able to
straighten the bolt and jam the head in the valve
that gave me a handle to pull down on.
hope that makes sense? has worked for me many
times.

Thanks ih_bug I may also try that if other methods do not work. Thanks everyone for the ideas.

Hi All: Thought I would update this so we have some closure on this thread.
Thanks for all the suggestions on removing the Flow Divider Valve.
To recap the issue, on my 2500B/574 I had no steering and the tractor would not move because of no flow to the hydraulic reverser. The 3PT and IPTO worked OK. After troubleshooting the issue I belivevd that the flow divider valve was at fault. But after removing the plug I could not get the flow divider valve out of the MCV. So in the end I ended up using a 3/8 lead/alloy lag shield and lag screw, I had to grind down the diameter of tip a bit but it finally seated in the end of the valve. I tightened it and it grabbed a hold of the flow divider valve and I was able to pry the valve down and out of the MCV.
I polished the valve with 500 grit paper and put it back in,
WOOOHOO I have steering and the tractor moves now.
I Was able to run it around the barn yard some and move it back into the rear of the barn where I can continue to work on all the other issues. Once again thanks so much for all the suggestions/advice on this.
