300 Utility Hydraulic Pump

Installed power steering on a 300U and now have barely any hydraulic capacity to lift anything with fast hitch. Have disassembled priority valve to make sure it is not stuck. Could hydraulic pump itself be worn or is there a larger pump that would fit on the tractor?

Two things occurr to me. One is if the powersteering is bypassing dramatically it will take 90% of the flow. The second is if the diverter is dumping pressure rather than controlling it. If every piece from a OEM installation is used (and working) it should be fine. A second thought is to use a separate pump to drive the steering. Jim

I did install a plug in the pressure port to the front control valve. The priority valve now has a line going around the rear of the block to a T into the valve for the fast hitch and then over to the auxiliary valve. The plug was put in the supply port to the aux valve

Where would you put the second pump? How do I determine if the priority valve is dumping?

The second pump is often placed to the under side of the generator, or above it. The pump can be from medium duty commercial trucks (from salvage) or from automotive applications that have remote reservoirs. (easiest to position and plumb. Driven from a belt, and hooked exclusively to the PS unit, it allows the original (I assume working) hydraulic system to operate as designed.
The system on your tractor is neither easy to understand, nor easily modified outside of factory components and intentions. Best of luck, I cannot give more info on why what you have done is not working. Jim
