How to remove the head from farmall f-20

Hi, I am restoring a 1938 farmall f-20 as a 4h project. I have removed all the nuts connecting the head, but the head is stuck. It will not come off and I was just wondering what the cause of this might be. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

the head is stuck due to rust on the studs inside the head. have seen this many times. tap a screw driver or a piece of thin tapered flat iron lightly into the head gasket. keep working your way around the head and it should break loose. if its real stubborn see if you can bolt a chain to it on top and give it some pressure with a chain hoist pulling on it.

Rustred is 100% on the money. The other thing to remember, is that these heads are HEAVY. I use a gasket scraper and a soft mallet to drive the scraper into the head gasket at various points around the head to split the gasket and break the head free.

The idea of using a chain hoist or similar, bolting the chain to the head using the rocket arm mount holes is also an excellent point. You would be smart to use that hoist anyway, because lifting the head off is NOT a 1 man operation unless you are Hulk Hogan. I use a cherry picker hoist to lift off and then install mine.

I'm working on a F20 project too. Took mine off without the aid of a lift of any kind. Broke it loose the same way as mentioned and then gently pried and blocked until I could lift it off. I now own a cherry picker!
