International 140 Hydraulics

Found a 140 in some woods and talked the owner into
giving it to me. I got it running but have a problem with the Rear Hydraulic. It raises and lowers fine, but when a plow or scrape is raised, as soon as I release the lever, it goes right back to the "down" position. It won't stay in the "up" position. I have no idea where to start as I am new at this, so if anybody can get me started in the right direction for 'fix', I sure would appreciate it.

On the lever where it connects to the rod going to the hydraulic unit, there are two nuts. Loosen the outer nut then tighten the inner nut some and try the lever. If the friction washer is ok, you can adjust the friction so that it holds. If it works, then tighten the outer nut while holding the inner nut. If this doesn't work, then you will need a new friction washer. You can make them out of 1/16" cork gasket material.

Wow, you guys are awesome. I didn"t expect such
quick responses. I"ll sure try loosening and tightening those nuts and if needed, I"ll get a new friction disc. Thank You!!

The handle moves right back to the 'down' position.
the load stays up and the pump sounds like it
stops, but as soon as I release the handle, it goes
straight back to the down position. If I use the
little "holder/stop", everything works good
