thanks for the help so far guys

i am into the motor now , was thinking of just changing gaskets, no grindings in oil pan.
the gear and cam shaft moves a bit in and out maybe 1/4 inch towards front cover is this normal

i guess it is called end play

i dont see any place to adjust it, the gear is tight and sitting the shaft where it is supposed to

should only be .005-.008 I belive, stumper

ok i thought a 1/4 inch was a little much, so its the thrust plate thats wore out
