Today I went to change the fluid and filter on the IH 706 and I found these two bolts loose next to the filter. I saw nothing come out in the fluid from the trans. They measure 2" by 1/2" with 3/8" with out threads? Now where do they go?

Those sure do look like the bolts that hold the park lock to the top cover . if they are a half inch course thread . If the head of the bolt takes a 3/4 wrench then that is where they are from . Other wise if they are a 3/8th bolt taking a 9/16 wrench i will have to think on that for a while .

What happens when the third bolt falls out of the park lock bracket????

I see those bolts are spec"ed as 1-3/4" long in the parts catalog.

That would be correct if the 2" measurement was the total length including the head. Bolts are normally measured by just the length of the shank.

Ah things could get real ugly really fast . Last fall i was working on a 1086 that had a problem with a broken detent and was jumping out of gear . No a hard job but not as easy as on a non cab tractor , TILL i went to lift the cover off and it would NOT Come up more then a half inch . The main pin on the parklock bracket had worked out and to the back and was hitting the case. A three hour job turned into a 11 hour job .

bolts do measure 2" with head, and the park paw does like to jump out on any sort of a hill so, Any thing I need to know to get the top off the trans, all I have is a owners manual and maybe an exploded diagram, I hope there"s nothing else in the trans when I go to replace them.

last time I found a bolt like that in my Farmtrac trans I found another one coming out a hole of the transfer case. Got caught between a gear and the case and punched through.
