Water in castings while tractor is in shed (pics)

I know there are some that say tractors only get water in the rearend from sitting outside. I would have to say these pictures tell a different story. This was last week. Tractor hasn't moved in 4 months. Temps were -20 for a couple days and then it "warmed up." Temps were still at or near freezing. In my opinion, if there is that much water on the outside of the casting there is just as much on the inside.

What!

Are you trying to tell us that you don't keep your tractors in a heated, humidity controlled environment? :>)

Yep condensation get every where no matter what and you can not stop it you just have to be sure you check things or you end up with a machine that will not move when you need it due to ice some place

Humidity in a building is probably higher than outside especially when the weather is warming. So you get lots of condensation on the outer surface of things like castings. Condensation on the inside of say a gearbox depends on how much moisture is in the air inside. There will be some for sure but not as much as in the air outside. Loosen the drain plug around springtime, keeping threads engaged, watch for water dripping out. Retighten the plug.Water will be at the bottom of the oil. Run the tractor AFTER doing this. Dan

The air inside the housings is constantly being exchanged. Not only due to changes in temperature, which changes the air density, but any change in barometric pressure moves air in or out of the housing.

So where is the outside damp air getting into the tranny i havent seen any holes for the air to get in the tranny.

Gear shift is a 2" hole. That's a good start. Vent on Hyd tank. Vented gas cap. There are plenty of openings all over the place.

the shift lever is on top of the tranny and spring loaded thats the only opening in the tranny you would need pressure or sit out in rain for a long time to get and water in the tranny and you said yours is inside. I have the original B my Dad got for me new in 47 and it still doesent have any water in the tranny as i changed it just for fun cause the B will get a good cleaning.
