Hello I have this mount on a '35 f30. Tractor does not have generator or a double pulley on water pump. Hard to make out a part number but it is definitely IHC, can see the logo. Do not find in my parts books. Is it correct to the f30? Was it part of a Bosch or Delco Remy or Autolite add on lighting system? Thanks, mike

Not interested in selling right now, I think I will try to mount onto the '37 f30N that I recently acquired. Will be an interesting display with the '39 F20N that has the inline Bosch generator. Do you know of a source for the original switch used or the light brackets that mount to the finals?

I'm fairly sure in this case:

-D, DA, DB, DC, DD, DE, etc. suffixes would indicate earliest to later versions of the same individual part.

-DX, DAX, DBX, DCX, etc. suffixes would indicate earliest to later versions of some form of an "assembly" or a partial assembly.
Usually, parts with newer suffixes should be able to replace the older ones, but older ones may not always be able to fit where a newer suffix is called for. Sometimes additional parts had to be changed to go foreward or backward with the part number suffixes to make something work.

There are exceptions to these "rules", and there are further "rules" that I don't think apply in this case.
I'm assuming that PN. 23603D, a dowel pin, comes with PN. 3281DA to form PN. 3281DAX. If so, and if the dowel pin wasn't used for the desired application, or you only wanted to order the saddle piece by itself, you ordered PN. 3821DA. What they changed to get from -D/-DX to get to -DA/-DAX in this case, I don't know.
IH had part number "explanation" books available to dealers. I think this was explained in an issue of "Red Power Magazine" once, too.

Neat piece, anyway anybody wants to explain it.

If I've totally screwed up the suffix explanation up or someone can take a better stab at it, please do. :)

Thanks for the explanation. Part numbers did not show up in my TD35 or40 books. I am wondering if this would have been used on a T20 vs the inline generator used on F20 because of possible interference with fuel pump? Any thoughts on that theory?

3280 DX shows up in the T-20 parts book.

3281DA is in the T-6/TD-6, T-9/TD-9, and T-14/TD-14 parts books.

3281DAX is in the H's, M's, all of the O/OS/I/W-4/6 and W/I-9, T-6/TD-6, and T-20 parts books.
At least part of that clamp appears to fit the Bosch "no battery" generators on the letter-series tractors.

Thanks for the info, never thought to check any of my tractractor parts books, I will tonight. Am I correct in thinking that a D suffix would predate a DA and a DAX would be even newer? or do the different suffix relate to individual parts vs whole assemblies? Thanks for your help.

Hello I went out and cleaned up the generator bracket today and found some IHC parts numbers. The cast oil fill housing looks to have part number 3280D and the clamp part has casting number 3281D. Old round ihc logo present on all parts. I think the yellow look was just moss and lighting, looked red today.

3280DX is listed as being used on the T20 TracTracTor The 3281DX clamp fits many tractors including the H & M using the no-battery Bosch generator. So there you are. Find the generator and you will have a unique setup.

Rather ingenious though. Just bolts on top of the governor housing. simple, quick, and easy. I bet you could run it with a single belt as well, just get the right belt length.

All things considered, get a stock governor housing top, and list that puppy on ebay. be you would make a few bucks.

Yes, I agree, unless you find an IH part number on it I would not say it is IH. Lots of aftermarket companies made castings to fit. I'd sure never seen anything like it.

I've never seen that setup, wonder if it came off of an Industrial or a roadgrader ? Looks like it has yellow paint under the red maybe. Does it have a number cast into it ?
