Just wondering if anyone out there can tell me what the diameter is for a stock c169 piston ! Starting to think I may have miss matched poisons and sleeves !

I was just wondering what the stock piston would measure . I think someone along the way may have put oversize sleeves in it with a stock size piston. Sleeves mic at 3.626 or close to that . Piston is around 3 9/16. Poisons do not have ih on them but have the number 2076 . Just trying to figure out what it has in it . Thanks for the help !

THe pistons would measure that small if measured at the ring lands. (where the rings are located.
To get a good size measurement, it is necessary to measure on the skirt below the rings, looking for a maximum real diameter. Also reasonable is to use long feeler gauge blades with the piston in the hole, (no rings). I use .0015", .002", .0025", .003", and so on up to .0085". More than this might be found in a hotrod but not a tractor. the pull force on the feeler when checking this way is about one pound of force. The thicker the gauge the more force needed as they are flat and the cylinder is circular.
It would not be reasonable for the piston to be assembled with .0625+ clearance. It would not operate. Jim

Original piston diameter was 3.560 to 3.562. For your sleeve measurement the piston should be 3.622 to 3.623.
Think it was in the early sixties that IH stopped getting 3-9/16 pistons and sleeves. Since the bare block bore was the same for a C-169 and C-175 engine IH started using the C-175 ones as replacements for both engines. replacement 3-5/8 pistons have the small piston pin. So if you have a big pin C-169 engine setup now, adapter pin bushings are used in the rods to match the small piston pin.

Thanks for the help ! Just checked piston and came up with 3.622 so I guess they do match ! Going to do all sleeves and pistons just so i know everything is new and don't want to take it apart again ! Saw some kits on this site and was wondering on the quality ! Any suggestions on a quality kit ? Thanks for everyones help !

The YT rebuild kits are as good as they get, which is darn good. In the years I have been on this forum I have heard strong positive feedback. This includes both product, and support. The prices are very competitive as well. One common impression is the speed of delivery! Jim

Just a heads up if ordering from this site. The number they give for a serial break is the engine serial number. Not the tractor. Also sleeves that fit a original SH block don't work in a C-169.

Hey dewayne I appreciate the offer to buy those used poisons and sleeves but i think I am going to go with all new parts ! I am this far and for the price I really take any chances ! Not saying what you have wouldn't work or be ok just doing new for my piece of mind ! Will let everyone who has been following the thread on my oil coming from the breather on my 300 once I get it back together ! Thanks for everyone input !
