Your coil or the mag's magnets may be getting weak causing the weak spark. I would first check the magnets by touching them with a flat blade screwdriver. They should attract the screwdriver with a good bit of effort. If they have strong magnetism I would replace the coil. Be sure to check your point gap should be .013" also clean the points with some 320 wet or dry until shiny. Hal

Is the magnet the cylindrical piece going through the coil or the sides where the coil screws to? I haven't worked on mags much.

If someone could briefly explain or point me to a video or something on how the mag works. Thanks

The magnet is on the shaft running through the mag. The impulse driving it is on one end. The mag has to be disassembled to get it out. If you take it out, get 2 curved pieces of iron on each side to act as a keeper or it may lose some strength.

See my comment on the original post. Do you have the picture of the external coil converted mag? Jim

Please find the picture above in El Toro's response to me near the current top of page.
The ballast resistor (grey diagonal item) is not needed as yours is 6v, his was 12v with a 6v coil. Jim

It is El Toro"s Picture. I found one of the examples of where it was posted here, but it is "moved". Lets hope El Toro reads this and reinserts it into parts and Pieces or somewhere to look at it. THe image shows the mag with a coil and wiring mounted to the outside. (the image also shows a ballast resistor which you would not need). Jim
