FARMALL 450 GAS

A friend found a 450 and drug it home and the motor was loose so he monkeyed with it and got it running. The problem is when it is running there is a noise coming out of the TA area that almost sounds like a rod is knocking. He said he used a dowel and the noise is coming from the tork area. Is there anything inside of there that could be loose and making that noise. Any ideas would be welcome.

Some guesses, the bolt backed out retaining the IPTO driven gear to the lower shaft or gears have bad teeth. If the noise stops when the main clutch is disengaged scratch the above.
T/A clutch pressure plate failed with loose parts, Nut backed off that holds the T/A clutch carrier to the T/A unit.

itto.... Is the noise there with or without the clutch in or does it change with the clutch in or out.

I wouldn't dismiss the motor having problems either. What does the oil look like? What is the oil pressure? If he got it for the right price then he is already money ahead by getting it running.

If it's something in the TA that is the problem it wouldn't be super expensive to fix just labor intensive. Hoping it's something simple.

Could be loose flywheel bolts. Check the pressure plate/ bolts. The noise could be telegraphing from a ways away. Worn clutch splines??
