Hello looking for recomendations on best place to order correct steering wheel. I do not think that I have the remains of the correct one. Thinking it should be 3 spoke with the spokes rubber covered? Thanks, Mike

late ones could have had the letter series style. I think Dwayne at rusticredacres can probably get you one, Fordson House lists them too I believe.

The later F series and also the early letter series did use that 3 spoke, rubber covered steering wheel. That style is being reproduced, but only in the 16" diameter for the Farmall As and Bs. The F20, as well as the H and the M needs a steering that is 18" in diameter, and to my knowledge, the 18" wheel is not being reproduced.

Have several f series that have the cast 4 spoke wheel, looks like the late '37, the '38, and '39 F20's have remenents of rubber covered steering wheels. Also the one F14 has rubber covered. Should all f series steering wheels be the same size? Hard to say if any of mine are original after all these years, thanks, Mike

One with the covered spokes started being used in 1937 as part # 29118D. 29118DA was 3 spoke, early H and M were up to a DC suffix. 29118DC was 17.75 inch. Think the difference was the DC covering wasn't as thick as the DA. Also a couple of oddball wheels used for real short periods. Back in the nineties some aftermarket suppliers were selling a replacement steering wheel for H and M that looked close. Do still see one of those wheels ever now and then, but have not noticed anyone selling that type as a replacement for a while.
If not and you have a good core there is places that recover the steering wheels.

I think this is the wheel that D Slater was talking about. I lucked out and found this one on ebay NIB. Looks to be aftermarket, and it is 17 3/4". In the last 18 months since I've been checking ebay, I've only seen 2 listed. This was one of them. The other was used and slightly tattered, but looked to be in very good condition. I've noticed that the seller has re-listed that second one several times, and no one seems to want it. Not sure if he ever sold it since the last time I checked.

Sure looks good on that M below. Love it.

My 1940 M has the 3 spoke, rubber covered wheel. Previous owner installed it. That was enough years ago that he probably got the wheel from IH. My M is being turned back into a workhorse. Maybe I should remove that rubber covered steering wheel and replace it with the more common variety?

I believe the original steering wheel on a 39 F20 is rubber covered. My father bought a new 39 F20 and it has a rubber covered wheel, probably about 18". I still have the tractor and the steering wheel is original. Not sure where you can find a replacement, but one in the next picture posted by Patrick looks just like the one on my 39 F20. Al

AJB-830, does the backside of a spoke have the name sheller or F&H. Looks like maybe a sheller IH 29118DA wheel. Can't be sure though and I don't know what the difference between a 29118DA or DB is. Could also be a F&H but don't think so.

D Slater, I think you are talking about the rear wheels on my F20. It originally came with rear steel. My dad bought a set of F&H wheels some time in the 40s and put it on rubber. In the 80s, my dad found a set of wheels and tires that fit as one of the F&H wheels rusted out by the valve stem and the tires were getting bad. I think these might have come from a WD Allis. The fronts are original. If I go out to my farm today, I will check if there are any numbers on them. Al

D Slater, I guess you were talking about the F20 steering wheel. If I get out to my hobby farm today, I well check if there are any numbers on the steering wheel. Al

No on the steering wheel. Indention in the forward surface with a name and maybe a part #. F&H made a few steering wheels for those also. Thanks

D Slater, I went out to the farm and took a look at the F20 steering wheel. I couldn't find any name of part number on it. But my dad had filled in some cracks and painted it black. So the name or part number might have been filled over. I was not aware F&S had made steering wheels for IH. Al

I bought one on Ebay a couple years ago just like this one. I put it on my 39 M. It had a tag on it with the IH part number for this style wheel. Im not sure if its original or after market but sure wish I had a couple more.

My 1939 F-20 has a 3 spoke wheel that the spokes were not covered Its a real later serial number but might have been replaced at one time.
