Farmall H steering gearbox, shaft removal?

Trying to remove the steering shaft out of the front of the gearbox by opening the front and twisting the shaft out. It moves about an inch and a half and then stops, any ideas what we're doing wrong?

Merry Christmas, John V.

The bearing is a pretty tight fit in the bore of the plug threads. It can get caught there. Or the shaft could be binding in the bushing on the steering wheel side of the box. It needs to be very clean to avoid damaging the seal/bushing. A ball bearing with parts broken can also hang the removal. Replace it only with an equal Deep groove heavy duty bearing all others fail in that location. Jim

I have had that happen when I forgot to remove the woodruff key on the U joint end of the shaft. Just a thought.
