That Was It!

Don't know why I didn't connect the dots on that one. :>(

Before I started feeding this morning, I yanked the 6 volt coil off the H and put it over on the Hydro 70.

Now she starts like it should, runs better and doesn't pizz a hissy fit every time I bump the throttle.

Thanks Guys,

Allan

LOL! I guess!

Now I can put that loader back on the hydro where it belongs. Don't like startin' the diesels in the winter.

Well now wait a derned minute here!

Since I fixin' foot shootings, I better put the resister coil back on the M where it came from.

That old gal has been phartin' and belchin too........points are burnt up, I'm thinkin' LOL!

Remember to check if it says no resistor needed it is a true 12v coil with thinner windings and runs at the 14.2 volts of the system (no internal resistor). If it says 12v external resistor required it needs the ballast resistor. Jim.

This 'weird' coil came off the M which had been converted to 12 volts by the PO. Not a resistor in sight.

Long and short of it, think I cost myself a set of points when I pulled that stunt........

Very possible. A 12v coil will usually have ~3.5 to 5 ohms. A coil for use with a external resistor, or a 6v coil will have ~2 to 3 ohms (between the small terminals when at least one is disconnected.

How do you get along with that old hydro in the winter? Work OK? Take a while for the hydro to warm up and work right? What fluid do you use in it? Same all year long I suppose? Having grown up in NE, I know the winters there aren't like northern Minnesota, but then it's no Florida either?
