Hello, I was wondering if someone could give an idea of what top speed I might expect from my F20. Looking to install a unmarked road gear purchased from a gentleman on this site onto a '39 with fast fourth gear, has 12.4-36 rear tires, will this get me fast enough for a tractor drive? How much difference if I went onto my '37 with fast fourth and 12.4-28 rear tires? I know the '37 was around 7 mph, have never driven the '39 yet. Thanks, Mike

The Behlen road gear advertisement I have says that it gives a road speed similar to the H and M so my guess with 12.4-36 rears would be 15-17 mph range. If it is the same style that mounts to the front of the trans and looks like a Behlen I would think it would be about the same. If you have one of the Heisler style that goes on the back of the clutch housing and gives you 2 speeds for each gear AND you have the fast fourth already it will fly. They have a 2.6:1 or 2.7:1 ratio and will propel a fast fourth equipped F-20 with 36 inch rears to near 30 mph or more depending on tire diameter.

Road gear looks like the one marked unknown on pg 77 of the f series originality guide. will wait until it gets here to figure out gear ratio. I may not need road gear and fast fourth and 36 inch rubber. Thanks for your insight, Mike

The Heisler setup is the ONLY aftermarket gear box that will directly affect your internal transmission gears. all the other 'over drives' are just that, and over drive. you have ot have your main transmission in neutral to use them so it doesn't matter what 4th gear you have, it wont be used. The Heisler setup acts as a 'step up' type transmission that doubles all 4 existing transmission gears.

Thanks for the info, Heisler would be the much preferred aftermarket box then. Do you know if the F14 road gears would be the same? I have what I thought was a M&W road gear on my F-14 and it speeds up all three gears, maybe it is a Heisler will have to go look at it closer tomorrow, was on tractor and working when I purchased tractor so have not researched as well as I should have. Thanks again, Mike
