1586 throttle lever stuck

Been pretty cold here and it warmed up a tad so I thought I best run the 1586. Turns over just fine but I cannot move the speed control from the "off" position to where it will start. Assuming that the linkage runs to someplace where some water has frozen....but I know little about diesels, not sure where that linkage runs outside the cab, and it is frickin cold out there.

So I thought I would ask. :)

Is there a likely spot where it has frozen up with ice? Thank you and Merry Christmas!
 
Your throttle cable must have some moisture in it. Mind did the same thing, I just put a new one on it, not much to put one in. You could try to spray some wd40 into the ends. If you have a heater of some such to blow hot air onto the cable, it might free up, the lowest point is betwwen the cab and injection pump.
 
86 series use a cable. Water can get in it and freeze. Either throw some heat on it or replace it. It's not to bad. Don plenty of them in sub zero temps. Not fun getting under the dash but not as bad as the T/A cable...

They are correct. Taking it off and warming it to above freezing will cure it temporarily. Putting a cable lubing adapter on the end (motorcycle shops) and forcing lube the full length will make it new. Jim
 
The easiest way to find it is to start at the injection pump, on the left side, just above the frame rail, and work your way backwards til you come to the lowest point, which is likely the location of the ice. Get you a good propane torch if you don't have electricity where it is, but take it slow! Good luck, Hugh
 
appreciate the info! It was not hard to find where it is or to see how it could happen. I think a brooder light at a discrete distance will help that a lot. Thanks again!
