Farmall H Parts

Hello,

I have just taken on a project to restore my Grandfathers 1949 H and need assistance on how to find parts. Is there a cross reference parts book available? For immediate need, I require the oil seals for the brake shafts and the two oil seals in the steering bolster. Any help is appreciated.

You can go to CaseIH online and look up parts for your tractor. Some parts are still available from them. partstore.caseih.com Good Luck

easy way to put in those seals is
Bolster - have to pull them in with the open-end facing the grease. Either borrow the old-style seal puller from your CaseIH dealer, or rig up one out of all-thread / sockets / washers / nuts/ duct tape / etc. and pull them into place Took me three each; one to ruin, one to bend, thirdtime charm.
Brakes - push them in gently with a PVC pipe or PVC fitting of the exact diameter.
Best of luck. Christmas parade starts in three days, better hurry.

There's no cross-reference parts book, and no need for one. Any decent bearing/seal supplier can cross-reference using the original part number off the bearing or seal. Even NAPA can do it.

The parts books for most IH equipment, including your H, are online at partstore.caseih.com. There's even a smartphone app. If the seal on your tractor has had the part number worn off you can look it up there.

Take the list of numbers, and the seals if you can, to the place where you intend on buying the seals from.

For larger hard parts, try to find the local tractor salvage yard. IH made 390,000 Farmall H's, more than any other IH tractor ever. Parts are plentiful and should be relatively inexpensive.

When you put the seals in the bolster you get two pieces of pipe that will fit over the bolster shaft and the outside of the pipe is the same size as the seal and then you slide the two pipes on the bolster shaft and then place the seal on top and raise the shaft up in place and put the nut on to hold it. Then you slide the top pipe up to push the seal up to where it is suppose to be and use the bottom pipe as a slide hammer. When you do it that way the seal is square and goes right in with no bending.

Do a search for " Timken Seal Interchange and Cross Reference Guide" and that should list what you are looking for. It is a PDF document.

What are your symptoms, other than leaking?

Most of the bolsters are pretty well shot and require new internals if they wobble.
