looking at a IH 574 ,,gas with loader,,like to know if its a good tractor ,,and what to look for on it asking $4500 I always had ford tractors thanks cdv

I have a 574 gas with a Great Bend loader. Not a bad tractor but wish it was a diesel.Check for contanination of trans oil from parking brake. Check front axle bolster for cracks and axle pivot for wear. Does it have a swept back or straight front axle. Straight is better for loader work. Check for wear on steering cylinder pins and bushings.Makec sure fuel tank doesn't leak where it meets fenders. Prone to dirt build up there.

Had a 574 Gas with the straight front axle. No loader but was a great little tractor. Spent many an hour on it in my younger days shredding weeds around corn fields with a 6ft rhino shredder. Never had a problem with it. Wish dad would have kept that one! DK

we have a 574 diesel. great tractor, use ours to harrow and does a great job, only problem we have had is the parking break was left engaged once and that caused the hydraulic filter to plug up with metal shavings. never had any motor problems. neighbor sold his a few years ago for 7500
