pos to neg with gen

I recently bought a b275 International tractor that had a new battery. The info I have has that tractor with a positive ground. I was informed the battery was low because of a series of stops and starts in cold weather (glow plugs). When I saw the battery it was connected negative ground. I don't believe the seller ran it much because he was unfamiliar with the hydraulics. If it was connected properly would there be wires changed (regulator?) and polarized thru the field? Should I pos gr it n pol it d term

If that's a 12 volt battery I would check the charging voltage across the battery terminals using a volt meter. Hal

So when you change the pos ground to neg you don't have to switch any wires on the voltage reg, gen or the ammeter?

Thanks for the info. One last question. Should I polarize the generator like the book says (positive ground) through the d terminal or should I polarize it through the f terminal now that it has been changed to a negative ground?

Only generators that are B circuit should ever use the Field terminal when polarizing. even then I'd advise just polarizing bat hot to armature as a safe way to do it.

Got it. On the electrical schematics for the b275 International it has the generator with an F and D terminal. Don't know what it stands for, maybe de terminal, eh? That's right, I'm on the eh list. Thanks for your info.
