53 Super M differential oil level.

 Howdy boys, I drained the old gear oil from my 53 Super M and replaced same with GL-I 90 wt. It easily held the 13 gallons and brought the oil level to about 3 to 4 inches from the oil fill hole. Then shortly later, discovered that I have a dripping leak at the very front seal. Maybe a drip every 12 seconds or so.

Actually evidence says that I already had a small leak there, but I guess the old fluid level was low enough that it was not really leaking anymore, maybe just seeping, so I figured it wasn't a real problem.
Anyway, is the square plug that's located in front of the clutch the full indicator ?
Should I open it up and let any possible excess oil drain out or not ?
Thanks for your help ! :?

Yes the little square plug is the level plug.Drain
the oil down to that level.Too much oil will tend to
leak. You already had a leak there. The level was
probably low,so the leak didnt show.

I opened the fill level plug in front of clutch pedal this afternoon and drained about 1 to 1 1/2 gallons out. Thanks to all of you for your help ! I appreciate your time. :) :) :) :)
