Looked at a SMTA today, not like I really need it but would be a project. Has single wheel front, usual live hydraulic pump plumbed into a Dual model 250 loader using loader reservoir and not hooked into hydraulics under tank. Live PTo, TA. sheet metal very straight and loader looks pretty good except for dump cylinder. Loader not on tractor except for frame. Bad point is motor is stuck, probably from leaving muffler open and has set for a while that way.Makes it pretty impossible to check out TA or PTO or transmission. Rear tires worn but looks like they would hold air, tires and rims look ok. Guy wants $1000 but might come down a little. What do you think for value? Oh also noticed looks like block is 248, believe my other SMTA has a 261 or something.

Rear tires are big bucks. I would try to get him down a little based on that and unknown repairs needed to engine. In the end, though, I would bring it home. I think that is probably my favorite tractor in the world. Had one for 12 years, use it a lot, still love the thing.

$1000 doesn't sound too bad. You likely won't fix it up and sell it for a profit, but if you want the tractor, I'd say go for it.

It's probly worth $600 just in scrap iron...

Engine not being original will hurt the price some. But if its close and the sheet metal is like you say straight and not rust pitted. Unless the price has really dropped on good SMTA sheet metal the tractor is worth that. If it was close to me I wouldn't pass it up.

This time of the year about 5 years ago I watched one of them sell at a farm auction for $3400. Pure junk, wasn't anything good about it, nothing.

I'd go load it up right now. Of course I'd try to shoot an offer of $750 and have him counter offer you. The cheaper you get it the better.

I think that is the correct attitude. Shoot him an $800 offer and he can counter at $900 and load it up. Even if you had to go the full $1000 that isn't a terrible price.

Engine should be a C-264 IIRC.

$1000, I'd be shoving it on the trailer right now. What are you waiting for?
