My 460 ta used to engage whenever I would take of with it and I never knew why but it always worked so i never messed with it and now it doesn't work at all ? What should I do ?

Your statement "when ever I take off with it" seems to indicate that it was working like an automatic. If so it was out of adjustment and it was slipping (front TA clutch). It should only work when the lever is pulled back quickly. and be in direct drive when the Lever is moved forward quickly. Actually the quicker it is moved the better for its life span.
If the TA front clutch slips it eventually will not go into direct drive, and will stay in free wheeling (low range) all the time.
Can you explain more about your circumstances. Jim

I need to know (to assist you) what happens in the following circumstances:
Starting in 5th gear with the TA handle rearward, 3/4 throttle let out the clutch on a smooth level field road_________________________
Pulling a mold board plow in variable ground in 3rd with TA handle forward. The tractor slows, you pull the handle back quickly, ______________________
You pull up onto a slight grade leading into a barn door in 3rd, TA ahead, and push in the clutch. you stop and try to rake it out of gear.
Answers to these will help.
If when the lever is pulled rearward the tractor just plane stops, you are going to need a ramp and rollers (one way clutch) at least. It requires a double split to do the job. at the clutch to engine, and at the back of the clutch housing to transmission. Jim

I've seen this before.

If it does not shift when you pull the lever, and does not stop when you pull the lever, the TA clutch is burned out.

Whoever adjusted it last before you had it made the linkage between the clutch rockshaft and TA rockshaft too short, so the TA clutch has been slipping and slowly burning up.

The TA is supposed to shift into low range whenever you push the clutch. This is so you can shift the tractor. But, the TA should shift back into high range by the time you get the clutch pedal about half way back, long before the tractor starts moving.

This can NOT be adjusted out. You need to split the tractor to replace the TA clutch and throwout bearing. It's much easier and less expensive than replacing the whole TA, at least.
