Cub question

We have a 47 Cub with a 1 point hitch woods mower at the local railroad museum where I volunteer. It hasn't run over the past couple of years so I volunteered to get it running this summer. I posted a couple of questions here about it earelier. Thought it would be a simple fuel problem - lot of water in the gas tank and a corroded carb. Fixed all that and still couldn't get it running but one time. Today I found it it has almost no compression so it looks like I've found the problem. I doubt we are going to want to spend the money to fix it as we really don't need it. I'm considering offering to buy it. I wondering what it might be worth. It has almost new tires, good rims, 12V electrical, good sheet metal along with the one point hitch and mower. If it were running it would be in pretty good shape. It also needs a radiator. If I buy it I'm going to find a woods mower for underneath and use it for mowing my yard, replacing an aging garden tractor.

I assume you had the throttle wide open and used the starter to turn it over. 0 compression would be unusual.

Pour some engine oil on top of the pistons and see if the compression improves. The rings may be seized from the tractor sitting. Hal

I had a 47 with almost the same problem. When I got it running it had a lot of blue smoke and would foul the plugs after about an hour.I replaced the rod and main bearings and the rings. ran a hone up and down the cylinders, put it back together and it ran like a top.About $150 in parts.Hope this info. helped.
