On my 460( too dark tonight to read s/ n ) there is a plus or X mark that was stamped at the far right of the serial number. What did this signify ? Weren't there two kinds of460's? Like a farmall and an IH? This has a later looking tag on it.

If it looks like it could be a partial stamp of a triangle, (IIRC) it is for the recall bearing update as mentioned by Allen. Jim

My 1959 460 has that triangle as well. Looks like it was done with a small chisel. I was told it meant the rearend was replaced.

Yes there are two different models of 460, but the differences are more obvious than just an "X" mark on the serial tag.

The Farmall is tall, with the seat up high on a flat platform behind the rear axle.

The International is low and squatty, with the seat down ahead of the rear axle, and you actually straddle the transmission.

Yup, triangle means final drive update was installed. Does not mean the very latest bearings and lubrication of differential and bull pinion has been installed as more changes were made after initial update. Did ten of them. Good experience at company expense.
