I was wonder the differences be tween...And are the MW easily identifyable?I some time ago replaced the governor on my SM.It is different on the inside from the other one.Tractor runs really well and is super responcive. What are the advantages of the MW? Steve

M&W's Add-Powr governor made for an exceptionally snappy throttle & little else. The carb tube should have the name of the setup on it in raised letters, in an oval. Inside the gov., you'll find four tightly packed flyweights. That's your snappiness there. Had one on my 400. Didn't notice it until it kicked in. Then you can feel the tractor tug at your britches a little.

BUT the big thing abour them were the socket and ball linkage as it was much SMOOOOOOOTER the the headed pin a clevis I can do a snappy gov. as i have done this before with some of my local customers .

Picture shows some of the difference in most of them. See the connecting rod joints. Also the pivot uses ball bearings instead of the IH needle bearings. Also the pivot shaft has a nut with screwdriver slot at engine side of the housing to retain the shaft. None on IH. Some pivots used a different length from center to the spring hole for a different leverage compared to IH. Most include there own spring and a bushing to install in the forward spring hole. Most include a throttle shaft and tube to the carburetor. Most other than M&W are plain but you can spot a difference from the IH if compared. Depending on time frame M&W could be plain, have a tag with two rivets mounting the tag or have a flat place with G-11 power governor on it.
Picture not to plain but if you look close see the pins in the two weight unit have a long cotter pin through both weights. IH not retained like that. That's a M&W 2 weight. Thompson and other aftermarket brands also used the same.
M&W also used a 4 weight that pivoted on pins.
Rocket used 4 weights mounted by notches. Can't remember for sure but think Thomson and rocket were partly the same at one time. Some aftermarket kits were sold that didn't use all the parts mentioned above.
Happened to think some of the power governors use a different size bushing for the weight shaft than IH at the rear of the housing.
