766 torque amplifier question

My nephew got a real nice original 766, I think a 73 model, from his wifes grandfather.nice clean good looking tractor, overhauled a while back, original paint, no leaks, the only thing I noticed when running it around the place is sometimes on a moderately steep incline, ta in high, it wants to quit pulling. I ran her up and down the road which is a pretty good hill, and it does fine walks right on up in high gear, no problem. is there an adjustment on the linkage or anything, or is that just the way they are? main traction clutch seems to be fine, any info much appreciated. Thanks Jeff

A tractor that doesn't pull at random times is definitely not normal.

Sounds like the TA might be on its way out. There are some pressures you can check and some futzing you can do with the MCV, but "De Nile" is not just a river in Egypt. It's probably the TA going bad.

Have you pulled the dipstick on the rear end?? I'll bet ya find that it is a little low and you may also have a little air being sucked on the o/ring between the spped transmission housing and range transmission or possibly a slight leak in the pickup tube . So after ya see what the Fluid level is in the rearend make sure that it is at the full line and then add a couple more gallons to it and see what it does . Also it is wise to stay up on the clutch adjustment , trans brake and dump valve adjustment .

I will be sure and check the fluid level and see when the filter was last changed. I read a post on here about the clutch, dump valve, and how the light should go out when clutch is released, I'll check that also. hope its not the ta. Thanks for the help, might have some more questions in the future

You say the main clutch is holding? then the sprag in the TA is the one slipping. Low TA is driven by a one way clutch(sprag) and does not need oil to make it pull, slipping on the high side is caused by low oil pressure or improperly adjusted linkage. Either way a new TA is in your future.

The Reman units from your local dealer are much better than the original in terms of longevity.
