I readjusted valve clearance in the field this summer when it was hot and acting up. a couple were off a thousandth or two, but after resetting all, there was still no change. the fuel is fine cause the t340 runs fine from same storage tank. but we did flush tank, install new sediment assembly, and a new carb. ive also advanced and retarded time with no results. I may pull the head and go from there.

When its warm and runs bad pull off a plug wire and see what the fire to the plug looks like. Is it a weak yellow color? If it is your coil may be weak. You could replace the condenser since they're cheaper to see if it's the culprit. Also make sure there's a full stream of gas from the tank to your carburetor. Do a compression check to see what your readings are and record them. I would also install a new set of points. I wouldn't pull the head for now. Hal

I agree with Ell Toro. There is little evidence leading to a decision to pull the head. Changing ignition condenser and the coil is the next diagnostic step. Jim

try this: run the engine and spray some wd40 at the manifold . see if you have any blow out after the engine heats up.. see if tightening the manifold bolts down doesnt help. it will restore the right air gas mix and keep exhaust where it needs to.
