How to replace serial tag

My serial tag is in very rough shape and given the tractor is not very original I don"t mind replacing the tag. I"ve gotten a new tag made up and will be seeing my tractor briefly this weekend and wondered what I would need to change it quickly. How do you change the tag? Knock the brass rivet heads off with a chisel, then need to drill the brass out of the cast iron? If so what size bit? Once cast holes cleaned out put on new tag and insert new brass rivets and tap in with hammer? Am I close?
Thanks
YF

On my Farmall 240 the original tag came off by getting a thin metal wedge piece under the original tag with a few light taps next to the existing rivets. The rivets I received with my new tag are drive rivets with a few raised spirals the length of the rivets which are tapped in lightly as you noted. You may have to "tweak" the holes in your new tag a little to match the existing holes in the cast bell housing. Hope this helps, Hal.

Any chance you could practice beforehand? I"ve seen it done, with the rivet heads bent over sideways, looked pretty amateurish.

I used a brad puller on some once. It is a little tiny pry bar looking thing with a head on it notched in a "V" that looks like the end of a flat bar used for roofing

The tags on both my 1940 M and my 1940 H are held on with 4 tiny screws. Just take a very small screwdriver and remove them.
