'H' Pressure Plate

Anybody ever rebuild their own pressure plate? Where'd you get either kind of the springs? Mine's in great shape, but I wonder if the springs have got weak.

There's quite a bit of slop in the finger return springs, the thing's 60 years old, I am not real sure I like the way I have it adjusted, I have time on my hands to wonder and worry....

I rebuilt on from a B. I got new springs from the Clutch Doctor in the cities, Mn. That was a while ago & I forgot the address.

I used to rebuild all the Rockford clutch's(not the Auburn) on all the IH tractors & the IH ones also. Replaced a lot of pressure plate springs on larger tractors( usually to get heavier duty ) but never replaced them on an H. Didn't need to.At their age now, they may well be weak though. The fingers used to come in a package with new springs for them. Those springs were most always worn where they hook to finger. In later years everything turned to just putting in a rebuilt one. Problem with the rebuilts is that you never know how many times it has been resurfaced. Sent a few of them back due to lack of engagement pressure from too much material taken off plate. Have even had flywheel step machined to my own liking to make some of them fit up properly. Of course, that messes things up for the next clutch job. Not a fan of much rebuilt stuff but now days not much choice most of the time.
