starter drive

I'm looking for a starter drive for the 6V Delco-remey starter on my 300U.Only one I see on this site is for an M, 6V and they list a different part number than I see in the manual for mine. Any chance they are all the same as long as they are for a Delco-remy 6V? If not anyone know where I can get one. Is there any repair on mine. It takes several tries before it will engage the flywheel. When it does engage it works fine so its not the motor or the ring gear. I know what a ring gear problem is as I have it on my other tractors.

Looks like they list delco starter numbers instead of the starter drive part number. If you have a 6 volt gas, dist. or kero. with starter # 1108041. Looks like YT number 565549 should be it.

When the starter does not engage do you hear the gears grinding? If not, the problem is either the armature does not get up to speed fast enough or the helix on the drive is sticky and not allowing the gear to spin out fast enough.
