mounting a rear tire

I've got a new rear tire to mount on my F14 and was wondering what to use to get the beads to slide into place on the rim.

When I put a brand new set of tires on my H, I used PB Blaster to help things slide along a little better. I'm not particularly recommending that method, but it worked for me.

Being an old tire man that has mounted hundreds of tires over the year we always used dish soap and water on most but the tough ones we used Merphy's soap which any good tire place will have on hand

well i have used different thinks like soap also. but the best thing is the stuff the tire shops use. trouble with soap and water it gets inside and thats what rusts the rim. have to use just the liquid soap with a tire brush or rag.
that tire goo stuff comes in a 2 gal. pail and works the best of all things i have tryed. it is the consistantcy of vaseline.

I had trouble with the dish soap drying out to fast, use the murphy's soap, it's more like soupy Vaseline.

I always get it ready to go and spray silicone spray around the bead. Enough that it runs down over the lip on the tire. I tie a rope around the middle of the tire and twist it good and tight. When it airs up it will force the bead out better because the center of the tread is held down with the rope. With silicone I have never had it "pop" onto the bead real fast either. It goes easier. That pop they sometimes do nearly makes me mess my shorts.

I bought a gallon of rubber lubricant from NAPA, designed for tire installation. Best thing since sliced bread for me. Your mileage may vary.

I agree on the Ruglide, dish soap, etc. Once in a pinch I used the spray cleaner called Fantastic, and it worked well, too.

Since we are talking about mounting tires, the last set of new tractor tires I mounted had a note in the bag of the new tube to lubricate the tube with soap solution. I had never heard of doing that before. Anyone else done that? Roger

Well, I have heard and tried baby power. Worked ok, but wasn't too impressed. After mounting the tire, I had this strange urge to burp it.........
