Reseal Behlen Power Steering Unit

Got an old H with Behlen PS that's leaking bad at the output end.
Everything works great, just leaks. Never been into one before.
Any tips or pointers to be aware of? Got seals and gasket from local dealer, just trying to work up courage to tear into it.

The repair of he power steering unit is covered in my manual for my 400. It recommended that when you take it apart, to be sure it get the same shims back in it and to mark the gears so that they go back in properly indexed to each other. Like the timing gears in an engine. The shims are rather delicate looking and so I think the proper torque of the bolts might be of critical importance also.
Good luck

My Behlin power steering unit ("actuator") was leaking badly out of the end nearest the front of the tractor, I decided to send it to Steel Wheel Ranch, they rebuilt it and got it back to me in less than ten days, and I have been very happy with it for almost a year now. Just sayin', Hugh

You will have to start the repair on input end. Have to be very careful removing the valve end housing as the spool slides out of housing and stays with shaft. Then you take roll pin out holding input shaft to motor end, observing the slot and hole direction in the roll pin. Probably tear up shims getting it apart and need new ones along with the O-rings and seal and gasket. I always replace worn roll pins and spring in spool end unit. Torque is 70 ft lbs if memory serves me correct.

If you mark the gears, do so without damaging them. Use a magic marker or something that can be removed.
