First 6.7L ford diesel issue

My truck has 59K on it.

It appears that a failure of a thermocouple for EGT will cause the following message "Stop Safely Now".

I did so, shut off the engine and would not crank over after this. I let it cool, reloaded the default program, which reset the computer and it restarted. I have it home now. It appears this is a not so uncommon issue. I believe it would have restarted if I had unhooked batteries and reset without reloading, but it was pouring rain.

don't get one of those new 6.7 from dodge either , emission control are junking diesels . you pay 7k extra for a engine that won't last as long a a gas engine . find the biggest gas engine you can get in a truck and go with it .

New diesels will far out last a gas. You will have issues with the emissions stuff tho. It would be hugely beneficial if you got the delete kit and got rid of that crap.

I thought I read where the Feds outlawed the delete kits and started fining anyone making or selling them so after the shelves were empty they were gone. It is a shame because without all that crap todays diesel engines are incredible powerplants.

(quoted from post at 19:55:20 09/28/13) those new ford disels are junk go get a dodge or worse comes to worse get a chevy

OK, let me get this straight. He's supposed to get rid of a decent truck with a questionable engine for a good engine in crappy shipping container? Somehow I'd rather walk than drive a FIAT.

There ya' go!!! Until recently I drove vehicles for a car dealer... drove almost everything you can think of over the last 10 years. I'd take a Ford over the other two any day! Also saw what buyers had to deal with for problems after owning them... still take a Ford! BTW, this was not a Ford dealer.

I grew up as a Ford fan. I've rebuilt 2 engines, a Ford 289 and an International c123. I ran that 289 hard. Ford 7.3 was a tank. After working in a shop I switched to GM. GM's biggest problem is they undergear their trucks. They have excellent gas motors. The 5.3 might not be the most powerful, but I'd take that or a 6.0 gm over anything else.

That being said the only new diesel I would ever consider is a Mercedes 3.0 in a Sprinter platform.

so keep a truck that you know the motor is going to blow up screw that go get the dodge put your half million on it granted that not very good on interiors but hell its a truck not a caddy

Edge products ended up filing bankruptcy recently. The one company closed their doors rather than pay the fines. I know some guys who have done the deletes claim they will spend the money for the correct timing cover and gear train and put a P-pump in it before they will put the emissions equipment back in.

This is an issue with a thermocouple in the exhaust, I am pretty sure the engine is not going to blow up.
