Tecumseh Engine Problem

I have a 16.5 HP vertical shaft Tecumseh engine on my Lawnmower. It has had problem with carb. I tried to clean and it did not help. I installed a new carb and it ran fine . Cut it off and started several times; ran like new. I put everything back together and started it and it started pulling oil thru carb from crankcase vent tube. I removed the tube from the carb and it is splashing out the rubber tube.
What should I look for . I am puzzled what could have occurred? Any thoughts will be appreciated.
Thanks, Randy

Check your oil level. If the old carb had float problems, you very well could have filled your crankcase with fuel. Start there.

You have oil wanting out. I'd be willing to bet that it is thin and smells like gas. Your oil level is high and that's why it is barfing.

I have never had a Tec engine that didn't have carb issues. I've also never had one that I kept around very long.

If it is over full change it and put a fuel shutoff in the line. Turn off the fuel every time you shut it down just to be safe. I do that with all of my gravity fed engines.
