hi just picked up a 39 f 14 with a dual fuel tank set up ,the gas tank is mounted in the hood I have never seen one like this is it rare?

That's the way mine is. I dont think Ive ever seen a 14 around here that was set up any different, other than a straight gas model.

I had a gas model without the starting tank, I just don't see many of these at shows around me. This one also has a lift added on under the seat , ill try and post a pic later. Thanks.

I put the lift on mine as well. Also added the dual fronts back to it. that single isnt the right one for the tractor, but at the time all I had was that single setup. Has steel all the way around originally, and the rubber set up was cheap, except the tires! I like the set up like it is, if it runs out of gas, I dont have to constantly crank it to get it started back. Took me 8 years to finally get it to start easier. Noone at the time was making new floats for them, and thats what I needed the most. Its giving me some trouble starting now, but I need to do a tune up on it anyways.

I have 3 F-14"s that are dual fueled. None of them have the small starting tank in the hood. The small tank for gasoline was a part of the normal fuel tank. It had a filler on the back of the tank next to the support post for the steering wheel. I"m assuming you could order them either way, but somebody can correct me if I"m wrong. I"m attaching three pix of my F-14"s from the St. Louis, MO area.

Early F12 Kerosene tractors FS3035 to FS4655 used the two tank setup with the gas starting tank in the hood. Then the two compartment tank was used for Kerosene tractors until FS-128727 (now F14s,May of 38 ) from that point until the end of production Kerosene tractors once again had the gas starting tank in the hood.

The f12/14 were ordered as Gasoline tractors or Gas start Kerosene/Distillate tractors, not really dual fuel. Tractors ordered to use gasoline came with the single compartment tank, Tractors ordered to burn Kerosene/Distillate had the two compartment tank or 2 tanks depending on when they were built. One would assume near the end of production 38-39 the Kerosene/Distillate option was becoming obsolete and it was easier/cheaper for IH to add the starting tank to the hood than to produce a low number of two compartment fuel tanks.
