belly pump plumbing

I'm putting the belly pump in soon and was wondering if the fittings and hose at TSC is any good? If not where should I get my hoses and fittings to plumb a Saginaw hitch? Finally, do I need any tread tape/pipe sealant when I put it all together? thanks for the help, ~Anthony

The hydraulic hoses from TSC and the like are probably not the best there is, but they"ll be good enough. The best hoses will come from a farm machinery dealer, or from a shop that can custom make exactly what you need, but there is also a huge difference in the price.

Anthony,The hose/fittings at TSC are as good as anyones.I ues teflon tape.Just keep the tape 2 threads or so from the end so the tape stays OUT of the system. Most NAPA stores, implement dealers and a lot of other places carry hydralic hose.

An old M or an H can't generate much in the way of hydraulic pressure to worry about. Run of the mill hydraulic hoses would work nicely.

TSC couldn't sell those hoses and fittings if they were not capable of whatever they're labeled.

The M isn't capable of anywhere near the ratings on those hoses and fittings.

Other than being a bit overpriced and limited on selection, the TSC hoses and fittings will be just fine.

The M was originally plumbed with plain old "black iron" pipe fittings. Modern machined hydraulic fittings may not work on the outlet ports coming through the frame of the tractor.

surpluscenter.com has really low prices on hoses, about 1/4 of TSC prices when I checked a while ago. They take a while to ship stuff here to NY but if you are not in a hurry they have lots of things that are very handy and cheap.

If you stay with pipe threaded fittings, as DeltaRed says, use Teflon tape sealant like he suggests. If you go from pipe to JIC fittings on your hoses, only the pipe end needs sealant. I believe the H/M are only capable of about 800-900 psi, so any hydraulic hose should work... don't need multi-layers of wire until you get to somewhat larger size hose than you need.
