3414 front hydraulic pump coupling

was using tractor today and loader stopped working,,noticed the coupling was not turning the front pump shaft......
how does one change the coupling ,,,,,i have not been able to locate one either.....i found part numbers in book...384696r91..501 to 849..384727r91....850 and up....not sure what that means in my parts book...
thanks

Looks like 384696R91 fits serial numbers 501 to 849.

384727R91 fits serial numbers 850 and above.

384696R91 is still available from FIAT dba CIH, but the number has changed to 381152R2.

384727R91 APPEARS to be NLA from CNH, but if you GOOGLE the number, quite a few sources come up.

No, I haven"t changed a coupling on THAT particular tractor. Have worked on LOTS of similar "stinger" pump drives n all sorts of other tractors, though, and, for sure, it"s NOT going to be a FUN job in the cramped space where it "lives"!

I just got done making a new pump drive setup on my 3414.

As to your's - it all depends on the serial number and which pump it has.

Early 3414 has a pump with a round shaft and single key.

Later 3414 has a 7/8" X 13 splined shaft just like many Deere, Fords, Cases, etc. use.

On mine - the pump had the 7/8" X 13 splined shaft. Then a 7/8" X 13 splined coupler that you can buy on this Website as a Ford part.

From that coupler - the shaft is 7/8" X 13 splined on one end - BUT tapers down and is only 3/4" splined on the other where it connnects to the drive plate on the crank-pulley.

If your coupler is bad, it's likely the shaft and drive-plate on the crank pulley is also bad. I adapted all new parts that I bought here. All for a Ford loader. New rubber-cushioned drive plate with a 7/8" X 13 hole instead of 3/4". New 7/8" splined shaft, new 7/8" splined coupler.

If ALL you want is a coupler - you can buy here under Ford. 7/8" X 13 internal splines.

Thats great info.....thanks so much.....yes mine has the spline coupling......did you pull the radiator and the pump to get at the coupling....thanks again

No need to pull the radiator. Front pump MUST come out. In my situation - I had a brand new pump ready to go in anyway. I was just looking for an excuse. The original Cessna pump was completely worn out. I put a new Webster-Danfoss in (direct Cessna replacement).

My drive was still working but the backhoe would barely work once hot. Strangely - the front loader still seemed to work. I finally pulled out the front pump and it was completely worn out. NO way to fix. I also found the pump drive was just ready to stop turning. It was all hanging by a thread and all splines were hammered something awful. Note that this machine had been run for years with the hydraulic filter missing. That seems to be common with 3414s.

I had to pull off the front weights, grille, and then the front pump. Easy job. The hardest part of the whole deal was making an adapter plate to make a Ford pump-drive plate to the IH crank-pulley. I made a round plate from 5/16" steel and drilled holes to match the crank pulley and the new Ford hub. It's nice now that all the parts are standard and available here cheap.

When all done with the new drive, pump, hydraulic oil and new NAPA filter in the tank - it digs like a new machine. I'm amazed at the difference.
I also put in a new PS/swing pump that I got from a place in England.

Ok glad i dont need to pull the radiator.....i am hoping to just replace the coupling.....as i cant afford a new pump right now......my loader was running great.....not slow and was very strong.....i have kept a new filter every couple of yrs.....
They are a great machine....strong work horse for there size
Thanks again
