I have a 59 farmall 460 gas that I ve been restoring,I have rewired it using new gauges, key switch, push button, I ve put in new points, condenser, plugs, cap coil and wires. my problem is that I still have no spark to the plugs, I have power to the ballast resister (12v)and 6v to the coil, but the resister gets very hot, I can t find the problem. can anyone here help? thanks joe

Does the stationary part of the points have continuity to the ground? The points provide the ground to the coil so it can fire. With the ignition on the points should spark when you open and close them with a screw driver. If you are getting spark across the points it is a cap and rotor problem. Do a search for John T's trouble shooting guide it is very complete and will get you there!

THe issue is likely to be grounded lead to the movable point. Often at the pass through on the side of the distributor. I will bet that the point side of the coil shows no voltage when a piece of plastic is put between the points and the key is turned on. If so the point spring and conductor, the condenser lead, or the small bolt is touching ground at the distributor case of point mounting plate. Jim
