Farmall Cub

I have a Farmall Cub with a 3" bore. According to the serial number it is a 1952, but it is not the original tag. I think someone made an error when they got the new tag made. What years did the cub have a 3" bore? Thanks

Cubs ALL came with a 2-5/8" bore from the factory. M&W used to make a set of .090" oversize pistons for the Cub back in the '60's, but they were obsolete by the early '70's. Those were the biggest oversize I've ever seen made specifically for a Cub.

So I have no idea where those 3" pistons came from.

Any casting numbers on them anywhere?

Here is a picture of the engine from a CUB, The cylinder head is still on. Did your engine look like this?

I can't believe there's enough material in the block to bore a Cub engine out to 3"!

You'd be well into the water jacket, and there wouldn't be much more than a thin sliver of metal between the cylinders.

AFAIK, .060" over is about as far as you can go. That would make for a 2.685" bore, far from 3"

Are you sure you don't have an A or a Super A there? People commonly mistake one for the other, especially if they're new to tractors.

An A/Super A is about 1/3 bigger in every dimension. The Super A will have TWO hydraulic levers instead of one. The A/Super A will have the serial tag under the seat vs. on the steering bolster for a Cub.

If you truly have a Cub with a 3" bore, there are a lot of people on here that would like to see pictures. Whoever did it was either a total hack or a master engine builder.
