age of engine from serial number?

Is there any way to tell the age of an IHC engine based on the serial
and model number? (113,123,125 etc)

Usually. It depends on some specifics. If it came out of a tractor, may need to know the model too.

Some serial lists are online at the WHS.

Casting date codes will give the year. Much older castings, the codes are few.

I beleive casting dates began in 1931 with A, they did not use V, there weer both U and W used in 1951, my "H" with the T means 1950, and they reset dates in 1955, starting with A again. D was 1958.
