Farmall 300 Generator Replacement

I"m working on getting my Dad"s Farmall 300 working and looked at the 12 volt generator and it"s not charging. I would like to replace it with a new small alternator. I was searching this site last night for some info on what I would need to do to wire it up correctly but didn"t find much. The generator has two wires coming off of it. Can someone tell me what I might have to do to get the wires set up right?

F on the gen to F on the reg A on the gen to gen on the reg and batt volts to the Batt on the reg from the amp guage. Polarize the gen touching Batt term to the A term momentary getting a spark. Then with engine running check amp guage. A terminal on the gen should read 7 or so volts. If it doesent charge ground the field that should show charge but does show reg is bad if grounding the A term doesent show voltage gen is bad and take it to a shop.

I can help you out with wiring diagrams for installing alternators on Farmall 300 tractor.
Check out my website at www charliesrepair dot com I'm also sending you an e-mail.

Gene, are you talking about how to hook up a 12 volt alternator? I'm not that savy on terminology and parts so I'm not following what you are saying. But you said I should get a 7 volt reading, which makes me wonder if you are talking about a 6 volt system. The Farmall 300 I have has a 12 volt system with a generator in it right now. Thanks!

Hitachi alternator from a late 70"s early 80"s Datsun/Nissan works good. Smaller than a Delco and wires the same.

Charlie has diagram for it.
