Hello I am a new owner of a Farmall 400 all original intersted in boosting my power at the tractor pulls It weights in at 7000, the torque amplifier does not work just wanting to get more power out of the tractor and more rpm any ideas how to get it?

Also the torque amplifier only works in high range where do I take it to to get it fixed or just cheaper to buy a new amplifer.

Where do you find more performance parts for these tractors besides dennys as well thanks for all your help[/b]

I can rebuild your ta for you or send you parts to build it
yourself. I would also reccomend you put in a heavy duty ta
clutch and the modified heavy duty ta

irst off I would pickup a manual from the folks here. The TA might need to be adjusted, or maybe it's shot. I would give adjustment a shot first though. If it does need rebuilt keep in mind the machine had to be split in 2 or 3 pieces. It's not hard but you do need some heavy equipment to handle everything safely. Judge your mechanical ability appropriately. If you have question in your ability then I would farm it out to somebody that is capable. This is one of those deals that you really don't want to tear into more than once.

First thing make sure that the TA is actually out on the low side.

If the TA is out on the high side, nothing will happen when you pull the lever, same as if it's out on the low side. It will always be in low.

The difference is, the tractor will want to freewheel when going downhill, with the TA lever ahead. Make sure the brakes work before you try this, and don't have anything hitched to the tractor.

That said, the most common failure is for the low side to go out. Usually this is the ramp and roller assembly inside the TA that's bad.

If you're capable of removing the TA to "take it somewhere" you are capable of fixing it yourself if you'd like. At that point you need to decide if you just want to fix what's wrong, or replace the TA unit completely so you don't have to tear the tractor apart again in 2 weeks to replace some bearing that you didn't notice was bad before.

+1 on the heavy duty TA !!!
I would do a bit more research over on the tractor pulling site here.
They don't think much of Denny's.
