1979 Cub- What type trans/dif. gear oil how much??

Working on final steps to put a 1979 Cub to work. While I have the IH50 shop manual, it is not very clear how to check the fluid level for the trans. and diff. OR what type of gear fluid to use.

Questions - how do I check fluid level? Is this fluid for both the tran. and diff.?? What type of fluid (gear oil) should I use?

Thank you in advance for you assistance. David

You also need the owner's manual.

Level check plug is on the left side near/behind the fender.

Takes about a quart and a half of your favorite heavy gear lube. If the bottle says "gear lube" on it, it's fine. If it says "play sand" you probably shouldn't use it.

David,
The full plug is on the left side of the transmission.
The transmission takes either 80/90/140 wt, or you can use Hy-Tran if you wish. The transmission shares oil with the differential. Capacity is 3 1/2 pints.

The finals have their own oil, and the fill plug is on the inside of them. They are a bit messy to change the oil in them due to no drain, you just have to drop the pans, clean them out and reinstall.
