How do you do you get one of these to stop leaking, had it apart again last week. It's got the rubber tipped needle. Float level right, float doesn't have gas in it, tried the old needle & seat, thread tape on seat threads. I've had it apart atleast 1/2 dozen times.
Put it back on the tractor, turned gas on about 8 am and checked it on and off all day, started getting wet inside about ten, bedtime. Turned gas off for the night. Started in the morning, ran like watch for a half hour, shut it off and it took five or six hours to form a drip on the bottom.
I been trying to fix this for a year and half. I don't see any reason why the gas needs to be turned off if the carb. is right.

Is your gas tank Clean? Don"t matter how many times you clean the carb or how new or old it if you get ONE little spec of dirt under the needle valve, And that is what it sounds like to Me. My H would seep a little so I cleaned the carb out with acid, Gas, and air, Put it back on and it seeped a little. LOL So I know why to shut the fuel off when I"m done useing it.

I do see one very compelling reason to turn the gas off even if the carburetor is working right...

With the gas off, the engine will only run 30 seconds or so, limiting the amount of damage the tractor can do if it is accidentally started.

There are stories out there about tractors being started by lightning strikes and going on mad driverless rampages all over the farm while the farmer slept or was out of town.

As for the leaking, I dunno. I've had similar problems, taking the carb apart several times, finding everything adjusted right and no obvious problems. "Cleaned" again, reassembled, still leaks.

If I leave them alone, they eventually stop leaking all on their own.

I think the problem is that the needle and/or seat are a little rough and don't form a complete seal. Engine vibration causes the needle and seat to burnish each other smooth.

Check the flat spot on the float where the needle sits for any dimples or imperfections. My M did the same exact thing and when I checked the float it had a dimple which didn't quite allow the needle close completely. I changed the float, re-adjusted, and haven't had a problem yet. Not sure if that's it but probably wouldn't hurt to check, good luck. ~Anthony
