How light did/does the 16A/B/C sickle mowers make the fro...

While I'm leaning towards modifying (or finding an already modified) a-22 to fit the B, I'm also seeing if I can find a 16B. As I have hills to go up and down, I am curious how light the 16s made the front end.

Of course, aside from that, I always wanted a belly mount so I could pull a wagon without removed the mower if I was in a hurry. Still, there is a part of me that's pleased by the thought of not having to modify something and actually use a part made for it... IF I can find one.

R C Brooks: Why not weld a plate with a hole large enough to accept a draw pin for a wagon on to the back of the mower, possibly on the lift arm of the knife near its hinge point? This way the mower doesn't need to be taken off.

I do not know the model number of the sickle mower I have on my BA. Half B half A. I built the tractor out of 2 junk Bs and an A. Reason I did was I had the sickle mower that fit the A sop figured why not. As for making the front end light I have not noticed it a bit. Ya if I did as the other guy say yes you would in fact notice it a lot. Many years ago I took 2 or 3 old sickle mowers and build a belly mounted one for a B I had way back when. I used a Chev power steering pump for the hyds to lift it up and it was still working well when I traded it off

To ad a reply to the lightness of the front end NO SUCH LUCK. I should go out and photograph the hitch my father put on the a/c21 sreries for out tractor. He had it put on in the 50s. being low on the back of the mower it tends to try to lift the back of the mower when pulling a full load standard sized hay bails or the bailer and wagon. The front is a narrow two wheel type on a BN series.

Well that's good to know. I remember my great uncle on this very same B had issues with hauling wood in an old pickup bed wagon (or I guess it'd be better to call it a trailer).

[b:f7ee1c9404]Old[/b:f7ee1c9404] I've never used a belly mounted sickle mower. However, being able to see it without looking back sounds convenient. Did you like it better than a rear mounted one?

I built that one for my B just because the belly mount type is so much easier on the neck and you can turn a better square turn with it also. I took an old A/C rear mount sickle mower and turned it around sort of back wards and made mounts for the belly some how. Been 20 plus years ago when I did it so do not remember how I did it just know I did and it worked great. I have used rear mount and belly mounts and both have to good and bad points

You could also bolt a pull plate to the front bolster in the two holes already there. You would pull a wagon in reverse but if the distance is short it would be a minor distraction.
