706/perkins

Anybody ever put a Perkins engine in a 706? I have a
gas 706 and a 318 Perkins sitting on the floor. I
wondered if this would work.

MikeinKY, WHY stick a Massey engine in a IH!!!!! More trouble than it is worth. More $$$ spent to modify and make work than if you get on a stick and find a decent engine to fit yours! Look on Photo Adds, Parts a 706 engine pops up pretty regularly, go buy it, then just R&R!

Maybe I'll look for a DT360. I had the perkins laying here and my mind went wandering. I guess I should control it better and not let it wander so much. Last winter the engine in my 766 went bad and I had a turbo 414 out of a 915 combine laying around I put in it and that made a good tractor better.

The cheap and easy way is to rebuild the gasser . As to installing a 360 yep it can be done BUT you will have more in that swap then the tractor is worth running . As it WILL NOT BE A BOLT IN DEAL.

If the gasser doesn't need work the cheap and easy way is to do nothing...

The only way a diesel swap is economical is if you do it all on the down-low. You gotta get the engine cheap. You gotta know the right people with the right skills that will do the specialty work for a case of beer.

On a 706 the best bolt-in diesel swap is a D310, but you need so many parts to make it work that you may as well buy a complete 706 tractor for parts.

D360 is a nice swap but not a simple bolt-in. You'll spend months chasing parts and a few need to be customized to make it fit.
