i snaped the 1000 rpm pto shaft on my 986 brushoging with a woods HD 315. i noticed a few weeks back the seal was lecking around the 540 shaft, asking to see if any of you guys had this happen, is it better to get a rebuilt exchange unit or buy a new shaft and do it my self. i plan to do this winter as i have 2 other tractors with 1000 rpm pto's. also i was mowing a heavy field of grass and weeds do you think the 15 foot batt wing is to much for the 986 ?
thanks

I have never broke a shaft on the tractor but have heard of it happing. Around my area, exchange units run around $500.00 for dual shafts. Not sure about rebuild cost doing it yourself. 15 ft is not too much for a 986. I used a 15ft for years behind a 806 and 856 about the same size as your 986. Does you your PTO shaft on the bushog have any wobble in it that might have caused the tractor shaft to break? The PTO units are the same from a 706 thru a 1486.

yes i do need to replace some items on the driveline of the brushog also, were the shaft cracked it looks like it had a crack for a while, i just checked on replament shafts and between $250 amd 350 depending were you get it. thanks for the reply.
