tractor ran great but pump started to run wild, got it in time now its off and going to the shop, now the question, the book says the drive does not need to come out, how do you check the backlash and if it needs adjustment how does the bushing get pulled. I have never seen this before any tips and list of tools needed will be of great help. it leaked oil at pump base will a new o-ring usually solve this. thanks in advance

Not to hard, under the pump mark how the slot is positioned before removing it if needed to install back the same. Put a screwdriver or something in the drive slot to twist back and forth for the backlash using a dial indicator if you have. The gear and shaft passes through a adapter that is oval shaped to change the backlash. Has different holes you can spin it to. Oil seal is under the adapter. Been so long ago that I can't remember if the shaft has a o ring or seal on it also. Anyway the slotted shaft with gear and adapter will pull out and you can see what's needed. Just don't turn the engine and put the slot back the same direction. Think I remember a dimple or mark on one end of the slot. Not sure of my memory though.
Last one I did everything was worn so much it took all the adapter would give to get the backlash to .006 I think it was.
