The manual says disconnect steering shaft universal joint. I assume it means the one closest to the steering wheel. Is there a way to disconnect it without damaging the joint?
I"ve appreciated your help going on fifteen years, but only able to help someone myself a couple of times. I appreciate you guys!

If I remember right and by looking at the manual you drive out the roll pin then slide the shaft out of the joint. It may take a bit to drive it out since it has been in place for years. A large punch and hammer is how I do it and if you do not have a punch you can use an old bolt you have laying around that is bad

A/B/C all have a pin in the joint. Many times it is hard to see due to the fact it has grease or paint etc built up on them. Also as per the I-T manual it has that pin

The joint nearest the steering wheel may be welded to the shaft. The joint near the front at the steering gear will have a roll pin where it connects to the worm gear shaft.

I took the joint itself apart on mine, seemed easier than the roll pin. I have never had good luck removing them.

I just redid my Super C last winter. The roll pin is not in the round piece that slides over the worm gear shaft. It is at the bottom of the "U" that holds the U joint closest to the steering box. It took more time to get it off the worm shaft than it did to get the roll pin out. The other end of the u joint is welded to the steering shaft.

My 53 Super C has a roll pin in each end of the horizontal shaft, I had it apart a week ago.
