I am glad to hear that the drastic linkage measures worked. Jim

Indeed! I thought I had posted about it but guess not. It powered up the chipper with no problem. Never a hiccup when I put those larger chunks into the machine. I am hoping it will be a rock star on the PHD so my shovel and I can enjoy semi-retirement from planting trees. Your advice was gold as usual. It was all in the linkage and exactly where you suggested it might be. Some good back-door cash work from a local machinist and I was good to go. Have to discuss these leaks another time. Why a guy would pay a lot of money to have engine work done and leave it leaking like that is a mystery. I need to isolate the leak but me thinks and fears it is the rear main. I am not really liking the prospect of splitting it but I'll do what I have to do.

Yes they do. My only experience was on my Cub Loboy and the fun there is that there are issues with failure after repair. Wish I could remember, but I think the retainer has to be machined to make a good fit. Fortunately we had a great guy in SE Michigan who would take yours and give you a machined one for a small fee. It wasn't the hardest job I ever did (splitting a cub) but doing this 300U with the loaded tires wears me out thinking about it. Yes, mains = pains (my back, my knees, shoulder, etc). I'm just not sure how I am going to separate the halves if they give me grief, but that's borrowing trouble...

That's the same reason my grain truck gets a quart of Rear Main Seal Stop Leak with every change. Oil is pretty cheap when weighed against the trouble of splitting something.
